Mesa women, Scottsdale men, move forward in first basketball rankings of new year

  The Mesa women and the Scottsdale men both moved forward in their respective Division II polls.

  MCC slipped into the #16 spot among the women following winning five of their last six contests, including a 64-49 triumph over The only loss was by three points to South Plains, the No. 2 team in Division I. Pima. The T-Birds are 9-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Pima inexplicably slipped from #9 to #18 after the loss to Mesa. The Aztecs are 9-4, 4-3.

  Scottsdale, meanwhile, jumped one place in the men's DII poll, having won nine straight after a 97-94 win at Glendale. SCC is 14-1 and shares the ACCAC lead with Mesa at 6-1.

  Two men's teams are both among others receiving votes. Eastern Arizona (13-2, 5-2) began 2020 with a 78-71 victory over Phoenix but Arizona Western (11-4, 5-2) fell to South Mountain, 74-69/

  In women's Division I Central Arizona dropped from #5 to #14 after losing two of its last four. CAC is 12-3, 7-0.
