The ACCAC softball season is beginning to heat up with conference action starting during the week of Feb. 3-9.
Four teams remained unbeaten after the first week of conference play.
Phoenix, the defending national runners-up in Division II, began was sweeps of Paradise Valley, 11-1 and 21-5, both in five innings and Scottsdale, 9-0 and 12-4. Sierra Meyers had two hits and four RBIs in the opener against PVCC. Both hits were home runs. Natalie Castro led the way in game two with two hits and four RBIs, including a homer. In the Scottsdale opener, Castro and Sydnee Smith each had three hits. Then, in the nightcap, Smith had three more hits and drove in four. The Bears are 9-0 to begin the season.
Central Arizona also has a 4-0 league mark after doubleheader sweeps of Mesa and South Mountain. In the MCC games, which CAC won, 6-4 and 7-5, Chloe Krason had five total hits while Nicole Ley had four in the nightcap alone. The Vaqueras are 8-5 overall.
Glendale captured its first two conference games, and is 7-1 overall. The Gauchos swept GateWay a week ago and won five of six in a tournament at Arizona Western over the weekend.
Yavapai took two from Pima, 6-2 and 5-3, and has a 7-4 overall mark. Alexis Garayzar had a pair of hits and drove in two in the first game, while Kamryn Kanakaiwi added two more hits.
