Eleven ACCAC teams ranked in NJCAA polls in Week 5

For the second consecutive week, 11 ACCAC teams appear in the latest NJCAA polls in Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, and Men’s Soccer with five teams ranked in the top five of their respective polls.

NJCAA DI Volleyball

Arizona Western stayed at No. 16 after the bye week. The Matadors will play again on Wednesday, taking on Central Arizona in an ACCAC matchup beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Yuma. The Lady Matadors entered the rankings during the second week of the season and have moved up four spots.  

Eastern Arizona dropped out of the top 20 but is still receiving votes after coming off a pair of wins, beating South Mountain 3-2 before a sweep at Central Arizona on Wednesday. The Gila Monsters are back home tonight, hosting Chandler-Gilbert.

NJCAA DII Volleyball

Scottsdale remained at No. 2 in the NJCAA DII Volleyball poll after winning their lone match last week, taking down Pima 3-0 in Tucson. The Fighting Artichokes have started the season winning their first 11 matches and have taken 33 of the 35 sets they have played.

Chandler-Gilbert also remained at their spot of 16 after rattling off three straight wins last week winning 9 of the 11 sets played. The Coyotes started the week with a 3-0 win over Glendale before getting a 3-1 win on the road at Phoenix. The Coyotes turned around and won their second match in as many days, beating South Mountain 3-1 on Saturday.

D1 Women’s Soccer

One of the biggest movers in the ACCAC this week was Arizona Western, jumping two spots to No. 9 and inside the top 10 for the first time this season. The Lady Matadors bumped their winning streak to seven games thanks to a 7-0 win at South Mountain on Tuesday before a 2-0 win at, at the time, No. 1 ranked NJCAA DII Phoenix on Saturday. Arizona Western has not allowed a goal in four straight games.

DII Women’s Soccer

With the loss to Arizona Western, Phoenix dropped a spot in the DII poll to No. 2. The Bears are coming off a week in which they fought to a 1-1 draw at Cochise on Tuesday before the loss to Arizona Western. The draw and the loss snapped the Bears ' game-winning streak to start the season.

Scottsdale held at No. 11 after winning twice last week, outscoring their opponents 15-0 thanks to an 11-0 win over Paradise Valley on Tuesday and a 4-0 win over Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday. The Fighting Artichokes have now won three consecutive games.

DI Men’s Soccer

Arizona Western has remained in the No. 2 spot since the preseason and they stayed there this week after win and a draw on the road this week. The Matadors started the week with a 5-0 win over South Mountain and came back from down a goal to secure a 2-2 draw at No. 2 NJCAA DII Phoenix on Saturday.

DII Men’s Soccer

For the second straight game, the Phoenix Bears settled for a draw, losing a lead late in the 90th minute against Arizona Western in a 2-2 draw on Saturday. Phoenix remained at No. 2 in the polls despite the draw, playing just once last week. The Bears are unbeaten in seven games this season.

Also staying in the same position is Pima, ranked No. 4 once again this week thanks to a pair of wins. The week started with a 4-0 at home over Gateway on Tuesday before picking up a 7-1 win on the road over Paradise Valley on Saturday.

Mesa was one of the biggest movers of the week, jumping up two spots to No. 8 after a 3-2 win over Yavapai on the road on Saturday in their only game of the week. The Thunderbirds drew their three previous games and moved their unbeaten streak to six games.
