Logjam at top of ACCAC baseball

  A log-jam remains at the top of ACCAC baseball with four teams having lost just once in conference play so far.

  Yavapai, Central Arizona and South Mountain are all 5-1 in league play and Mesa 3-1.

  YC, 15-2 overall, beat Canadian school Thompson Rivers twice, 13-1, 11-1 (5). Christian Encarnacion-Strand was 4-4 with two doubles, two homers and four driven in during the first contest and then made it a perfect day by going 3-3 with another double and two more RBIs in the second. The Roughriders then took a pair from Chandler-Gilbert, 4-2, 5-2. In the first of those two Willie Cano was 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Encarnacion-Strand hit a home run and Lance Kelly had two hits in the second contest.

  Central Arizona (12-4-2, 5-1) first swept Cochise, 2-1 (7) and 6-3. Kiko Romero had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh in the opener and Calvin Schpira struck out 12. Romero then added two more hits in the second game. Steven Saunders was 4-5 with a double and two driven in for the Apaches. Then CAC swept Scottsdale, 1-0 and 5-0. The first contest, a rescheduled game, featured a three-hit shutout by Mat Olson in which he struck out 11. Preston Godfrey knocked in the game's only run. Romero had a pair of hits and two RBIs in the second contest.

  South Mountain (10-7, 5-1) took down Pima twice, 7-5 (7), 15-1 (7). Ricky Munoz drove in four with a pair of doubles in game one. Davis Heller had the big game in the second contest going 4-4 including three doubles and five RBIs. The Cougars then took two from Phoenix, 3-1 (7) and 8-2. Justin Quinn drove in two of the runs in the opener and then two more in the nightcap.

  Mesa (14-1, 3-1) took two from Glendale, 4-1 and 5-3. Josh Leslie, Taylor Darden, and Luke Francis each had a pair of hits for MCC in the first game. Darden was 3-4 in the second.
