Pima runs wining streak to 20 in ACCAC baseball

One winning streak ended a week ago, but another is rolling right along.

Pima has now won 20 in a row following six victories last week, two of which were non-conference. The Aztecs are now chasing Central Arizona's season-opening run of 31 straight wins.

The week began for Pima with a doubleheader sweep of Cochise, 7-6 and 11-6. In the opener, J.J. Rollon collected three hits, one of which was one of PCC's three home runs. The other two were hit by Parker Schmidt and Jose Enriquez.  The Apaches got two hits from Makai Desoto. In game two, Pima grabbed a 10-0 lead after four. Schmidt and Terrell Huggins homered with Huggins driving in three. Desoto hit a home run for CC as did Javier Gutierez.

Following two non-ACCAC wins over Community Christian, 8-7 and 21-0, the Aztecs swept two from Chandler-Gilbert, 12-3 and 13-8. In the first contest, Huggins went 4-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. In the second game it was Schmidt's turn to collect four hits, while Rollon and Daniel Durazo homered.

Central Arizona still leads the ACCAC, but its lead over Pima has shrunk to two games and the two meet for the final time this year on Tuesday in Coolidge.

CAC split a pair of doubleheaders last week against Yavapai and Arizona Western. In the pair with YC, the Vaqueros won the opener, 9-6, but lost the nightcap, 9-8. In that first game, Dusty Garcia had three hits including a pair of home runs and a double, and he drove in four. The Roughriders had home runs from C.J. Valdez and Amari Bartee. In game two Yavapai scored five times in the eighth to rally for the win. Damone Hale collected three hits and Lance Kelly and T.J. Weaver he cleared the fence.  CAC's J.D. McLaughlin also homered.

In the two with AZW, Central won the first, 11-1 (5), but fell in the second, 7-3. Kiko Romero, Dayton Dooney and Devon Dixon had three hits apiece. Mat Olsen allowed just three hits in picking up his eighth win of the year. But the Matadors bounced back in the second contest Samual Fabian and Delano Selassa had three hits each for Western, one of Fabian's being a home run.
