Cochise, Paradise Valley, advance in Region I baseball

Cochise and Paradise Valley will be moving on to the next phase of the Region I baseball playoffs after wins Monday. 

Cochise, the No. 6 seed, topped Eastern Arizona, seeded seventh, 8-6, in the Division I game, scoring five runs in the first inning.

  After EAC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Apaches put up their big number to take a 5-1 lead. But, the Gila Monsters responded with three of their own in the second.

  CC was led by Ethan Silcox, Hernan Yanez and Aaron Marsh with two hits each. Yanez and Marsh each had a double and Marsh knocked in two runs.

  Tyler Mata-Lloyd, Jorge Olague and Alec Larson all had two hits for CC. Larson's included a double and Mata-Lloyd's a triple.

  Paradise Valley, the seven-seed, won 12-7 over sixth-seeded GateWay, 12-7.

  Jesus Moreno went 4-5 at the plate for the Pumas and Tyler McCaughey, Carlos Molina and Noah Burgarello all had multiple hits.
