Yavapai edged Central Arizona in 11 innings, 5-4, and Phoenix blanked Glendale, 7-0, in the Region I, baseball championship round first games Thursday in Divisions I and II respectively.
Both were the first games of best-of-three series.
YC hit three home runs en route to its win. Both teams will automatically qualify for the Western District tournament, with the regional champion having home field advantage.
PC scored six runs in the first three innings on its way to the win over GC.
Both series continue Friday.
