OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Scottsdale’s Za’Quan Summers was truly a dual threat in the Artichokes’ 58-29 win over Mesa. The 5’7”, 165-pound sophomore running back carried the ball 21 times for 114 yards with a touchdown and caught eight passes for 147 yards and another two touchdowns. Summers prepped T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. (featured in the 2000 movie Remember the Titans).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Strong safety Cloves Campbell had six tackles, including five solo and one for a 10-yard loss, in Scottsdale’s 58-29 win over Mesa. The 6’1”, 187-pound sophomore really hurt the Thunderbirds with two interceptions in the end zone, one of which he returned 100 yards for a touchdown. Campbell, from Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix also had three pass break-ups. (This is the second week in a row that Campbell has registered a pick-six.)
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Snow College placekicker Conner McRae was again automatic in Snow’s 73-6 win at Pima. The 5’10”, 190-pound freshman out of Liberty High School in Peoria, Ariz., converted 10 out of 10 extra points and booted a 32-yard field goal. On the season McRae is a perfect 46 of 46 on extra points.
