OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Derrick Walker, sophomore running back from New Mexico Military, ran for 254 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns as the Broncos mounted a 35-point second half to get by Pima, 45-38. Walker, 5’10” and 185 pounds from Pembroke Pines, Fla., also pulled in three passes for 17 yards and another touchdown.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK –Snow College held Arizona Western to only seven points on Saturday after the Matadors had scored 45 and 49 in their first two weeks of the season. Safety Eric Takenaka was a big reason for the Badger’s defensive prowess as the sophomore from West High School in Salt Lake City picked off two passes, returning one of them for 33 yards. Takenaka, 5’10” and 205 pounds, also had a total of eight tackles including five solo. An all-around athlete, he also helped out the offense on a couple plays, rushing one time for 16 yards and catching one pass for 18 yards.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – New Mexico Military return specialist, Guy Lemonier, returned four punts for 84 yards in the Broncos’ come from behind win. Two of Lemonier's returns in the third and fourth quarters set up, a 32-yard return late in the third that tied the score at 31 all, and another midway through the fourth that tied things up again at 38 all. The freshman from Miami, Fla., 6’1’ and 185 pounds, also had one kickoff return for 19 yards.
