BOWL HISTORY: The Valley of the Sun Bowl was founded in 1981 and is the oldest continuous bowl game in the NJCAA. The bowl is sponsored by the Maricopa Community College District. There are four Maricopa Community Colleges playing football: Glendale, Mesa, Phoenix and Scottsdale. The host college is the team with the best record in the Western States Football League. The host college for the 2017 Valley of the Sun Bowl game was Mesa Community College. The WSFL is one of the strongest community college football leagues in the NJCAA.
DATE: Saturday, December 1, 2018
LOCATION: The bowl game will be played at the home stadium of the Valley of the Sun Bowl representative from the Maricopa Community College District. This year will be at Scottsdale Community College.

BOWL DIRECTOR: The bowl director is Art Becker. Mr. Becker was Director of Athletics at Scottsdale Community College for 28 years and has served in many capacities with the NJCAA. He is the current Region Director in Region I (Arizona) and a former officer in the NJCAA. Mr. Becker was President of the NJCAA from 2005-2011.

The bowl provides the following financial guarantee to the visiting team:

1. $20,000.00 Guarantee
2. A gift for each participant and coach
3. 25 Complimentary tickets to the game
4. A team dinner the night before the game; Thurs. November 29, 2018
OFFICIAL BALL: Team Issue is the official football of the NJCAA and will be used exclusively in all bowl games. Refer to the NJCAA sports code, page 34, Football.
HOTEL: The bowl committee negotiates with local hotels to get the best room rate possible. The hotel cost is the responsibility of the visiting team.

PRACTICE TIME: The teams will be able to practice at the game site. Please contact the host college to arrange for practice times.
OFFICIALS: Officials for the Valley of the Sun Bowl will be assigned by Bob Taylor, Supervisor of Officials for the WSFL. Selection criteria will be based on evaluations received during the football season. Eight officials will be selected; seven will officiate the game and one will be an alternate.
WEATHER: December is usually a beautiful time of the year in Arizona. Typical weather during December is sunny and dry with daytime temperatures in the high 60’s and nighttime temperatures in the high 40’s.
