A rough second half which saw 13th-seeded Ranger (Texas) shoot 19-32 (.594) while 20th-seeded Cochise cooled off to just 9-35 (.257) was too much for the Apaches to overcome in an 86-68 loss in the first round of the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship Monday.
CC trailed just 40-36 at halftime but couldn't contain the Rangers in the second 20 minutes.
Patrick Samoura led the Apaches with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Stephen Byard had 14 points, Brian Rios 12 and Jonathon Garcia added 11 off the bench.
Cochise finishes with an 11-3 record in the COVID-19 shortened season while Ranger is 20-4.
