Chandler-Gilbert, Mesa, chase Central Arizona in women's basketball

  Central Arizona remains alone atop the ACCAC women's basketball standings following a pair of wins last week.

  The Vaqueras began with a 74-70 win at Pima. Denali Hughes led CAC (9-1, 4-1) with 17 points and 13 rebounds, one of three double-doubles posted by Central. Ayanna Clark scored 17 and had 13 boards, while Jenay Bojorquez had 13 points along with ten assists. Saturday CAC trimmed Tohono O'odham, 102-60 as Makayla Pippin exploded for 34 points along with 15 rebounds. The Vaqueras once again had three double-doubles as Clark contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds and Hughes had 23 with 11 off the boards. Pima is 5-3, 2-2).

  Chasing Central Arizona are Chandler-Gilbert and Mesa.

  CGCC (7-3, 4-1) won twice last week. The Coyotes edged Scottsdale, 71-69, and Phoenix, 76-73.

  Mesa (7-4, 4-1) won twice, defeating Glendale and Arizona Western. In the GCC game,  Zyan Smith tossed in 16 and Rasheda Willis 14. Against AZW, in which the T-Birds won, 67-47, Janelle Barkey was the top scorer with 16 and Smith added 14. Buse Utku was tops for the Matadors with 14.

  Four other teams, Cochise, Eastern Arizina, South Mountain and Phoenix, all have 3-2 ACCAC records.
