Central Arizona bids for perfection in women's basketball

 With just one game to go in the regular season for women's basketball, Central Arizona is pursuing perfection while a three-team battle for the final two Division II regional spots looms.

  CAC (26-3, 21-0) has won 15 in a row and will host Eastern Arizona Tuesday in its bid for a perfect league season. The Vaqueras beat Phoenix, 89-50, as Makayla Pippin poured in 32 points and grabbed 16 rebouds. Janay Berry scored 16 for the Bears. Then Central went on the road to defeat Scottsdale, 79-47, with Pippin, Ayanna Clark and Denali Hughes all scoring 12.

  Cochise (25-4, 17-4) will be the #2 seed in the Division I regional and EAC (20-9, 13-8) will be #3.

  In Division II, Mesa (19-9, 16-5) wrapped up no worse than a tie with Pima (22-7, 15-6) for the top regional seed. The T-Birds beat Scottsdale, 88-52, and Chandler-Gilbert, 81-54, as Myka Taliman recorded a triple-double with 11 points, ten rebounds and ten assists.

  Pima, meanwhile, won over Chandler-Gilbert, 88-55, and Phoenix, 80-64. Marlene Arroyo-Plata had two of her biggest games of the year with 21 points and 11 rebounds against CGCC and 16-14 versus Phoenix.

  In the battle for the final two DII spots, South Mountain (12-13, 10-11) has clinched at least a tie and will host Mesa Tuesday. Chandler-Gilbert (13-15, 9-12) plays at Tohono O'odham and Phoenix (9-20, 9-12) plays at Cochise.

  Regional Play begins Tuesday, March 3.
