Mesa, Pima, reach Region I, Division II women's basketball finals again

  For the ninth time in the past ten years, and the fifth straight season, Mesa and Pima will meet for the Region I, Division II women's basketball championship.

  Top-seeded MCC won its way into it's tenth straight final with a 55-48 victory over Phoenix Wednesday night, while the second-seeded Aztecs eliminated South Mountain, 77-65. The championship game will be held at Mesa Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

  The T-Birds built a 28-14 halftime lead and never trailed again. Stacey Begay came off the bench to lead MCC with 12 points and Jacey Salabiye and Myka Taliman added ten each. Raenesha Willis contributed 12 rebounds.

  PC was also led off the bench as Matalina Ochoa tossed in 23.

  South Mountain actually led at halftime in its contest at Pima, 36-33, after racing to a 10-0 lead. but the Aztecs scored 44 second half points to pull away for the win. Hallie Lawson scored 18 points for PCC and Sierra Mich'l added 17. In addition, Fama Thiam scored 11 and Marlena Arroyo-Plata had a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds.
