Torres' late goal gives Phoenix opening day win in NJCAA DII women's soccer

  Zalma Torres scored the game's only goal in the 84th minute to give Phoenix a 1-0 win over Muskegon in pool play on the opening day of the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Friday.

  Torres scored unassisted for the No. 1-ranked Bears who will now complete pool play by taking on eighth-seeded Waubonsee Sunday at 9 a.m. Arizona time for the right to move into semi-finals.

  PC out-shot Muskegon 12-1, thus forcing goalkeeper Jennifer Alvillar to make just one save in earning the shutout.

The tournament is being played in Evans, Ga.
