Yavapai clinches home court advantage in Region I volleyball

  Yavapai clinched the No. 1 seed and will host the up-coming NJCAA Region I, District I playoff with a come-from behind, 23-25, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-11 win over Arizona Western in Prescott Wednesday. The two will meet again Wednesday in Prescott with the winner taking on a representative of Region V for the right to move on to nationals.

  The Roughriders, 7-1 in ACCAC play and 10-5 overall, played their first five-set match of the season and earned their first ACCAC championship since 1996.

  Two freshmen led YC on attack. Mailani Manuel had 16 kills, along with 20 digs, and Kambry Jorgenson added 15 kills. In addition, Elizabeth Toiaivao contributed 11. Heather Wanninger had 24 digs and Alia Rasmussen produced 15 along with 48 assists.

  AZW (5-3, 9-9) was paced by Anny Montado-Hurtado with 15 kills, while Daniele Jimenez Paz had 14. Christina Reyes came up with 34 digs, Naomy Vergez had 15, Montado-Hurtado had 14 and Mariana Donado chipped in with 12.
