There may be a bigger horse race in ACCAC volleyball than has been the case in recent years. The conference had two teams ranked in the first NJCAA Division II poll a week ago and both were upset last week.
Scottsdale fell to Pima and Glendale was beaten by Chandler-Gilbert as league play got fully underway.
SCC, ranked #6, had a match with South Mountain postponed early in the week but then fell to the Aztecs, 3-0. For PCC, Kaylee Moseley had 11 kills with Deanna Al,aguer adding 11. Aydalis Felix had 19 digs and Jessica Bright-Schade had 16.
Pima is now 2-0 in the conference and 5-4 overall, earlier in the week had beaten Phoenix, 3-0, with Andrea Vigil German and Bright-Schade each adding ten kills.
Meanwhile, Chandler-Gilbert was in the process of topping 13th-ranked Glendale, also 3-0. In this one, Celestial Miller drilled 17 kills and Amara Horton contributed 38 assists. The Gauchos bounced back with wins over Southern Nevada and Western Wyoming, both 3-0, in a tournament in Nevada.
After the upset of GCC, the Coyotes stopped Phoenix, 3-0, as Miller added 13 more kills. CGCC is now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in ACCAC play.
